Looking back on all of the essence products I have used over the past 4 years or so, I was surprised to see how few I have worked into my routine (relative to the amount of products I have used overall). Essence is a skincare category that I seem to favor, as most of the products I trial end up performing well. I end up keeping most of the essences I use in my routine long after the trial period (with the occasional fail from time to time)…until I use up every last drop haha!

Back in the summer of 2018, I had fallen madly in love with all things K-Beauty. I started with all of the classics, Tony Moly, Innisfree, Nature Republic, Missha, and Acwell. But one brand took me by surprise by taking a more simplistic and sensitive skin focused approach to one of their lines, and that was Etude House and their Soon Jung products.
The essence step in a skincare routine can sometimes be hard to pin down. Is it a watery fluid focused on brightening and hydration, or something with more weight that brings nourishment and soothing to dry skin? Luckily, more and more brands are coming out with a variety of products they deem as “essence”, meaning more options for more skin types.
