It’s no secret that I am a fan of Korean beauty products. From CosRX to Mediheal, I’ve been impressed with the wide range of innovative items from Korea that are not only reasonably priced, but also capable of treating my finicky combination skin.
K-beauty introduced me to one of my favorite skin-related items ever: sheet masks. They’re simple to use: just place one on your face and chill for about half an hour while the essence works its wonders. And best of all, there’s no rinsing-off required afterwards, which is perfect if you’re lazy like me.
While Korean sheet masks receive a lot of acclaim — and rightfully so in many cases — they’re not the only game in town. Enter Taiwanese sheet masks, underdogs in the skincare market that deserve much more attention than they get.
My experience with T-beauty is hardly extensive. In fact, it’s been limited to masks. But to date, all of my brushes with Taiwanese beauty products so far have been positive, especially the fantastic Annie’s Way sheet masks and nourishing 23.5°N sleeping packs.
So when GlowieCo asked me if I would be interested in reviewing sheet masks from Taiwan-based Lovemore, I didn’t hesitate to oblige. For one month, I used Lovemore sheet masks several times per week. Here is how my skin fared from the experience.
A Little Bit About Lovemore Sheet Masks
Like other Taiwanese sheet masks, Lovemore masks are made of 100% silk. This makes them super adherent to your skin — so much that it’ll almost look like you don’t have a mask on your face at all! That adherence results in a more even distribution of essence on your face, which we can all agree is a good thing.
The different Lovemore sheet masks tried during this month.
Lovemore prides itself in using 100% all-natural ingredients from Taiwan. These range from rose and aloe vera to more unfamiliar (to me) varieties such as Job’s Tears and loofah. (The latter I used to solely associate with puffy shower gel absorbers.)
My Month With Lovemore Sheet Masks
Generally speaking, there is a lot to like about Lovemore sheet masks.
First, I appreciate the manner in which they’re packaged, neatly folded with a white plastic backing and a blue mesh backing. You may find this cumbersome. However, I am clumsy. I have torn more masks than I care to admit. Lovemore masks are thin. I would likely wreck them upon unfolding if not for the backings.
I’ve also found the individual backings to be useful at gathering any remaining essence, which is less of a hassle than dunking my hand in the packaging about seven times.
Lovemore masks have added fragrance. Fortunately, it’s subtle, but if your skin is irritated by even the slightest hint of fragrance, you’ll want to reconsider.
These sheet masks adhered beautifully. There was some adjustment required around the nose and mouth area, but nothing too outrageous. My Lovemore masks stayed in place without any issue, even when I ate potato chips while watching dramas on Netflix.
Lovemore recommends leaving these masks on for 15 to 20 minutes. I tend to rebel (...or fall asleep) and leave sheet masks on longer than the recommended time. However, in this instance, I seemed to get more out of my Lovemore masks when I removed them after 20 minutes. Whenever I wore them beyond 30 minutes, they began to dry, with little essence for me to work with afterward. (Blame it on the dry heat in my home?)
Now to take a look at the individual sheet masks I tried:
Lovemore Pearl Barley & Milk Smoothing Sheet Mask
LoveMore Pearl Barley & Milk Smoothing Sheet Mask $3.25 (Single) $14.50 (Box)
I like milk, both to drink and to slather on my face. Milk protein is hydrating and adept at locking in moisture. Meanwhile pearl barley, also known as Job’s Tears, removes inflammation, brightens your complexion, and fends off cell-damaging free radicals.
Of all the Lovemore sheet masks I tried, this one is my favorite. It not only left my skin vibrant and supple after every use, it also tamed a quarantine stress-induced breakout. I’ll gladly take a box of these for moments when my skin just needs to calm down.
Lovemore Loofah & Aloe Vera Hydrating Sheet Mask
Lovemore Loofah & Aloe Vera Hydrating Sheet Mask $3.25 (Single) $14.50 (Box)
This mask is formulated with loofah, aloe vera, and hyaluronic acid for a healthy dose of hydration. But that’s not all. Loofah is chock-full of antioxidants to even out texture, while aloe vera is great at calming irritated skin.
Personally, I found this mask to be more soothing than hydrating. That’s not to say it didn’t hydrate my skin at all, but I especially benefited from its soothing properties after long, hot showers on cold winter nights. I could see myself reaching for one of these in the summertime after too much time in the sun.
Lovemore Rose Hybrida Brightening Sheet Mask
Lovemore Rosa Hybrida Brightening Sheet Mask $3.25 (Single) $14.50 (Box)
What is a “rose hybrida”? It likely refers to the two types of rose that are in this mask, cabbage rose and beach rose. Both of these flowers are rich in vitamin C, an antioxidant that brightens and repairs skin. This mask is also quite hydrating as it features sea water, algae extract, and hyaluronic acid.
This sheet mask has a lovely floral smell that doesn’t linger too long. As for its results, it certainly revitalized my skin thanks to its brightening and hydrating ingredients. It’s the perfect springtime mask...or whatever will pass for spring this year.
Lovemore Pearl & Red Pearl Barley Brightening Sheet Mask
LoveMore Pearl & Red Pearl Barley Brightening Sheet Mask $3.25 (Single) $14.50 (Box)
We’ve already covered the power of pearl barley, but what about found-under-the-sea pearl? Specifically, the ingredient in this sheet mask is hydrolyzed pearl, which can stimulate collagen production for smoother skin. It also contains soothing calendula.
This mask gave my complexion a nice pick-me-up. Oh, and I am in favor of any mask with ingredients that can stimulate collagen production, especially since I’m well into my 30s.
Verdict: Another T-Beauty Winner
While I had a clear favorite among the four Lovemore masks I tried (Pearl Barley & Milk!), all of them had a positive impact on my skin. After a month of using these sheet masks, my complexion is brighter, softer, and better-hydrated. Even when my skin had a mild freak-out mid-month, Lovemore masks helped temper the flare-up.
Quality-wise, Lovemore may exceed a number of K-beauty brands at a similar price point. In fact, you can pick up a pack of five Lovemore masks for just under $3 apiece, which is a fantastic value.
Whether you’re new to T-beauty or already acclimated with the wonderful world of Taiwanese sheet masks, I highly recommend giving Lovemore a chance.
